It was caused by one of my initialization settings, it's working as
expected with 'vim -u NONE'

> :hi SpecialKey guifg=Red

I have listchars set as follows:

:set listchars=tab:»·,trail:·

which uses a kind of a middle dot, well different from the plain full
stop. Nevertheless, I didn't actively know about the ':hi SpecialKey'
feature, and I've entered it in my .vimrc, thanjs Benjamin.
