file positioning not working

Hi,

File positioning not working despite of having the required setting
in .vimrc

if has("autocmd")
autocmd BufReadPost *
\ if line("'\"") > 1 && line("'\"") <= line("$") |
\ exe "normal! g`\"" |
\ endif
endif
set viminfo='10,\"100,:20,%,n~/.viminfo

But if I have any file open and open another one with :tabnew <file>
then it works.

I checked .viminfo file as well, which has lots of entries.

What can be wrong here.
