I have written a set of instructions that will update CentOS's ancient
Vim to the latest version at:

<http://sudoers-d.com>

which may or may not work on RHEL but I'd have thought it would.

Also my vimrc is at:

<http://github.com/horse-latitudes/horse-vimfiles>

which will give you a few ideas.
