As mentioned in an earlier post in this thread, I use the closetag.vim
plugin, available among the "scripts" at vim.sourceforge.net -- use
Ctrl-_ in Normal or Insert mode to close the current tag at the cursor.
(It does some sanity checks, and will give an error if, for instance,
you're just after a closing tag which was never opened).
"Tag soup" tagging of the kind
<b>bold <i>bold-italic</b> italic</i> normal
which is against the standard but accepted in "quirks mode" by some
browsers, is not recognized. IIUC this is intentional.
