1) what is recommended by vim documentation alone is a not strong reason.
2) My view is vim being a text editor should not execute programs that I
have never known before.

I guess vimball as an official recommendation is intended to achieve something bigger
like rpm or deb package for automatic installation, dependence checking,
resolving conflicts and packaging versioning and updating. However all these
seem bloated for a text editor.
