I don't see a problem; I tried the example given on the mailing list
(after making suitable guesses to correct the "beautification" made by
some email relay) and saw a problem with restoring the "hl" option; I've
fixed that in v12f. Otherwise, I didn't see the "Invalid argument"
problem you're having. Please upgrade your AnsiEsc to v12f -- its
available at http://mysite.verizon.net/astronaut/vim/index.html#ANSIESC
. If you're still having a problem, please send me a copy of the text
so hopefully I can duplicate the problem.
