Compiling 7.3

The vim.org site offers all kinds of alternate ways to obtain and
install vim 7.3, requiriing software I never heard of before. On
Linux can I just:
1. Download the bz2 file.
2. bunzip
3. tar xvf
4. ./configure
5. make
6. make install
?
