buffers being wiped/lost

I've had this situation for a year or so now, and I'd like
to figure it out:

I frequently use a mod of the bufmru plugin, where you can press "Space" to
switch back to most recently used buffers.

Every so often, a buffer will disappear from the list. I will re-open the
file, and check its "buflisted" property. The buflisted property will be false.

I set the buflisted property back to true, and it starts showing up again.
Can I set a breakpoint or something that will tell me when a buffer's buflisted
property is being set to false?
